On January 26th at 7:00 PM in Astana, there will be a lecture titled "Should a Good Composer be an Innovator?", conducted by Anna Vilenskaya, a musicologist, composer, and creator of the project "Open Music Lecture".

It is commonly believed that a composer is someone who creates new music. However, sometimes this music sounds "too" new. And then we say that the composer is an innovator. Innovations in music have been perceived differently throughout history: in the 16th century, an innovative composer was seen as a strange person whose professionalism was questioned; in the 19th century, an innovative composer was a genius ahead of their time; and in the 20th century, an innovative composer was considered a normal author.

During the lecture, we will discuss why people demanded different things from composers at different times. Do we expect innovation from contemporary composers? What does this say about us and how can we use our knowledge of music history as a tool for self-development? To answer these questions, we will analyze many musical fragments and letters.

The lecture will take place on January 26th at 7:00 PM in Astana at the conference hall of Astana Business Center "Moscow", located at 18 Dostyk Street.

The lecture will be conducted in Russian.
