“To Moscow, to Moscow.” Who wants to go there anymore?
Teater Mars is staging Anton Chekhov's classic play in a production with roots stretching back 30 years. The performances are subtitled in Finnish.
Thirty years ago, Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters was performed on the Mini-stage at the Svenska Teatern. “It feels downright difficult to part with this delightful, thoroughly intelligent and utterly charming theatre production,” wrote the critic Gösta Kjellin. “Finland-Swedish theatre at its very best,” wrote Leif Zern later that spring during the guest performance in Stockholm.
In 2026, director Joakim Groth is reviving THREE SISTERS with as many of the original cast members as possible. There is no longer a Mini-stage, and the world is a different place. So what remains? What endures when everything changes?

“The voices become more sensitive. As if under a spell, the performance takes over.” Rakel Similä, HBL, 10.04.2026
