A dialogue with gravity. A journey between Earth and Sky.
In "Something Wants to Collapse", a Cyr wheel becomes the vehicle of an introspective and physical voyage—between rooting and travelling, expansion and concentration, softness and risk. At the heart of the stage: a circular apparatus, a body in motion, and a poetic conversation with gravity.
This 40-minute contemporary circus and dance performance is accessible to all audiences. Blending acrodance, body research, and minimal scenography, the piece invites viewers to suspend their own sense of balance, as the performer explores the tipping points between control and surrender. The performance guides the audience through the emotional and physical terrain of the piece.
Originally born during pandemic lockdowns as a playful experiment—"Can we still dance with an iron bar?"—Something Wants to Collapse is also an ode to self-learning, curiosity, and creative resilience. It marks the beginning of Yann Szuter’s artistic dialogue with the Cyr wheel, transforming a personal discovery into a deeply shared experience.
