Viirus GUEST: Heavenly Father
- how displacement moves from geography into flesh
Heavenly Father is Mohammed Mustafa’s new solo performance, in which he seeks a spiritual connection with his Palestinian father, who passed away in Jordan. The work traces a journey that reaches across generations, spanning from the 1960s to the 2020s, and from the West Bank to Finland.
Mustafa’s previous solo work, Mascu-fuck, explored sexuality and immigrant identity through an intimate lens. Heavenly Father dives even deeper into the politics of silence, the history of oppression and living in the diaspora as an inherited experience.
This ritualistic performance reaches beyond politics into the personal, and through the personal back into the political. On the stage of Teatteri Viirus, a link is created between the worlds of the living and the dead.
