The Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch - Tallinn Satellite Event

Join us in Tallinn for a Day of Solidarity and Support for: The International Curry Lunch for His Majesty's Veterans. Please note this is a satellite event in Tallinn which will support the main event later in April at the Guildhall.

On the 4th of April 2025, Tallinn will host its first fundraising event organized by the BECC (British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce), for the sole purpose of supporting His Majesty's veterans. This satellite event, echoing the esteemed Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch, which aims to raise crucial funds for the growing number of Commonwealth veterans residing in Estonia and across the region.

These veterans, who have served with distinction in the Army, Navy, and Air Forces of the Commonwealth Realms, represent a legacy of dedication and sacrifice. From those who served since 1949 to recent deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan and Estonia, their service is deeply valued.

This year, we are honored to begin the day with a compelling seminar focused on geographical security, featuring Roger McDermott, an honorary senior fellow, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Kent at Canterbury, and senior fellow in Eurasian Military Studies, Jamestown Foundation, Washington DC. Mr. McDermott specializes in defence and security issues of the former Soviet Union, providing a unique opportunity to engage with an expert on critical regional issues.

What is the Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch?

The Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch brings together over 1,650 leaders and decision makers from across all sectors of the City of London and beyond. The Lunch is hosted by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress and is attended by a Royal Guest of Honor each year. Since the inception of the Lunch in 2008, over £3.7 million to support the veterans of His Majesty's Armed Forces.

Event Agenda:

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: The Russia-Ukraine War and the Challenges of Strategic Uncertainty by James Sherr OBE

James Sherr is Honorary Fellow of the International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS) in Tallinn and an Associate Fellow (and former Head) of the Russia and Eurasia Programme of Chatham House, London. Previously, he was a member of the Social Studies Faculty of Oxford University (1993-2012), a Senior Lecturer at the Soviet (later Conflict) Studies Research Centre (RMA Sandhurst and UK Defence Academy) and Director of Studies of the Royal United Services Institute (1983-85). He is the author of Soviet Power: The Continuing Challenge (1987), Hard Diplomacy and Soft Coercion (2013) and an extensive range of shorter publications about Russia, Ukraine and European security. For twenty years, he played an active role in UK and NATO defence and security cooperation in Ukraine and has made well over 100 visits to the country. In 2008, he was offered membership of the Kremlin backed Valdai Club (until 2017) and has spoken on six occasions at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In February 2024, he was ‘personally sanctioned’ (blacklisted) by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with 17 other British officials and experts.

2:30 PM Onwards: After-Party at Burman Hotel

Continue the festivities with an after-party at the Burman Hotel, featuring a champagne reception with glasses Pol Roger (Winson Churchill's favourite), a cash bar and a relaxed atmosphere for networking and enjoyment.

Dress Code: Business formal / Lounge Suit and Military Uniform.

All proceeds will be donated to the Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch Charity. Due to limited seating, tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
