Tamara Eidelman, historian, lecturer, writer, educator, and author of a popular YouTube channel with an audience of over 1,5 million subscribers, will deliver a lecture on March 26th in Rome titled «Why Do We Often Think About the Roman Empire?».

If you think that only men featured in a well-known meme constantly ponder the Roman Empire, you are greatly mistaken. The Roman Empire, and even the Roman Republic, has been and continues to be a subject of contemplation for a wide range of people. Many cultures refer to it, and it is analysed by historians, philosophers, and political scientists alike.

The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, «Moscow — the Third Rome,» «a true Roman» as a model for early 19th-century revolutionaries, the residents of Constantinople who called themselves "Romans«—in short, if not all, then many of the world’s cultural roads lead to Rome.

What secret charm did this rather harsh and militaristic civilization possess? Why do we so often return to it in our thoughts? And overall—why did it last so long? Why did the Roman Empire endure for centuries without falling apart? Was it simply because Rome is the «eternal city»? Or were there other reasons?

What is the great mystery of Rome? Let’s try to find out...

After the lecture, all guests will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the topics, purchase a signed book, and take a memorable photo with Tamara Eidelman.

The lecture «Why Do We Often Think About the Roman Empire?» will take place in Rome on March 26th at 7:00 PM at Teatro Flavio, Via Giovanni Mario Crescimbeni, 19.

Doors open at 18:30.
