The Skadi Quartet are four young, creative musicians at the outset of their careers. Their work as a quartet explores traditional folk music from across Europe, fusing aesthetic principles of various traditions with their own ideas and education. The group all studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where they collaborated on this programme. The College is known for its baroque music specialism, and the group enjoy returning elements of this technique to the music from which they originated, as well as imagining what can be achieved when more modern takes on both genres are fused.

This concert has at its heart traditional Nordic music arranged for string quartet by the Danish String Quartet. They have published two albums of this genre, bringing their local music tradition to concert halls around the world. Alongside these works, the Skadi Quartet will present some of their own arrangements of traditional tunes taken from Playford’s Dancing Master.
