Volcanoes: Windows into Earth’s Fiery Heart 🌋

On November 16 at 5:00 PM in Tbilisi, volcanologist, mineralogist, and «Enlightener» award laureate Pavel Plechov will be giving a lecture.

Volcanoes are windows into the fiery heart of our planet, places where life is born and dies. Did you know that Tbilisi is surrounded by volcanoes? No?

— Everyone knows about Kazbek—the most famous mountain in Georgia, which erupted less than 6,000 years ago.
— But southern Georgia also has many volcanoes: the Javakheti Volcanic Plateau and the volcanic ridge Samsari.
— From Tbilisi to the largest volcano in Armenia, Aragats, is only 120 km—the same distance as to Kazbek!
— And it’s just 200 km to the legendary Ararat, a massive stratovolcano.

At the lecture, you’ll embark on an exciting journey to these fiery giants to uncover their secrets and understand how they influence our world.

What you’ll learn at the lecture:

— How volcanoes shape our planet and why they surround us even here in Georgia.
— Impressive stories and footage of eruptions.
— How volcanoes create unique ecosystems, enrich the soil, and affect the climate.
— Modern methods of predicting eruptions and how to minimize their consequences.
— Practical advice: what to do if an eruption begins.

After the lecture:

— Q&A session—ask your questions to the expert!

About the speaker:
