Thursday 7. November at 19:00 - 22:00
Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center • Monroe Street 1770, 33020 Hollywood, Florida
Historian, writer, and educator Tamara Eidelman, the author of a popular YouTube channel with over 1.5 million subscribers, invites you to join her in exploring questions that resonate with many today: why is Russia so often labeled as a country inclined toward dictatorship? Has history over the centuries truly set Russia on a path to authoritarian rule, and is this a choice made by the people themselves? Tamara will offer different perspectives on these issues, examining how stereotypes formed and what philosophers and historians of past centuries have said about them.
She will discuss why the image of Russia as a nation fated to be ruled by dictatorship has become so ingrained in the public mind and will present alternative views on freedom, independent thought, and civic activity, which have also been a part of Russian history. How might these qualities influence the future? Do we have grounds for hope and change?
After the lecture, all attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the topics, purchase a signed book, and take a memorable photo with Tamara Eidelman.
The lecture will take place on November 7 at 7:00 pm at the Hollywood Performing Arts Center.
Doors open at 6:30 pm.
