A Walk on the Wild Side, Sandhead, 31st July, 4.30pm-6pm

Wednesday 31. July at 16:30 - 18:00

Sandhead shoreline • DG9 9 Sandhead, United Kingdom

All tickets have been sold out.

Please join nature lover, Alex Whannel, to find out more about his community’s ambitious wildlife strip which is enabling nature to flourish at Sandhead. By allowing the foreshore to rewild it is hoped that this will reduce flooding in the village of Sandhead and protect the children’s play park.
Alex, who was the lead for Stoneykirk Community Council, has worked hard to develop this rewilding strip created by erecting chestnut fencing along the shoreline. This is a nature-based solution to flooding and has very quickly enabled a variety of grasses, flora and fauna and with that insects and birds to come back to the shoreline and surrounding environment.
Alex will be joined by Solway Firth Partnership’s, Nic Coombey, to help us explore further the huge variety of returning species bringing with them many benefits to the environment, nature and a community on the edge.
We are hoping for a beautiful summer evening, but just in case, please come dressed for the weather and the terrain.
Solway Coast and Marine Project is an initiative by the Dumfries and Galloway Council Environment Team supported by NatureScot in collaboration with the Scottish Government and in partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
