Wild Apple Day 2026! A Coastal Apple Walk

Friday 8. May at 14:00 - 16:00

Torr Point, Auchencairn

Join us as we celebrate 2026's Wild Apple Day! Galloway is a 'hotspot' for pure wild apple trees. On behalf of the ‘Wild Apples of Galloway Project’, we invite you to join us for a walk at Torr Point,  Auchencairn to celebrate this iconic tree.

We'll be led by Wild-Apple enthusiast (and DG Woodlands Trustee) Jools Cox and we will tour some of the Wild Crab Apple trees, explain their place in native woodlands, and talk about the importance of this project.

Lee, farm owner, will also offer insight into the development and conservation approaches being undertaken at Torr Peninsula and Torr Organic Farm.

The walk will start at 2pm in the car park, the walk will last approximately 2 hours and will be less than 3 miles in length.

Due to the boggy nature of the ground, please bring your wellies if it’s been rainy. You might also like to bring a flask and sustenance for a sit at Torr Point. Only well-behaved dogs please (cows in calf in the field).

DG Woodlands is working with the wider Solway Coast & Marine Landscape Connections Project (SCAMP - https://www.solwaycoastmarine.co.uk/) to better understand, protect and support our Coastal Woodlands. Wild Apple (Malus sylvestris) is a vital part of our landscape, performing a number of roles.

Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands is a membership organisation established to support trees, habitats and the people that depend upon them in the region. For more information, visit www.dgwoodlands.org.uk or follow us on social media.
