Valter Soosalu (EE) / Viljandi Kitarrifestival 2025
Saturday 11. October at 18:30
Estonian Traditional Music Center, Viljandi
Valter Soosalu (EE) will perform at the Viljandi Guitar Festival on October 11.
Valter Soosalu is a unique composer and performer in the Estonian music scene, whose creative range spans from classical music to more experimental forms.
At the Viljandi Guitar Festival, singer, instrumentalist, and choir conductor Valter Soosalu will shine a spotlight on the harpejji—an electric string instrument developed in 2007 by American inventor Tim Meeks. The harpejji combines the tonal qualities and playing techniques of both the guitar and the keyboard. Soosalu discovered the instrument online and immediately felt that it offered something truly unique.
At the Viljandi Guitar Festival, Soosalu will introduce the origins, unique characteristics, and playing techniques of the harpejji. His performance will feature both works he has learned so far and original compositions, offering the audience a glimpse into his music and creative explorations. Since 2020, Soosalu has been an endorsed artist for the harpejji’s manufacturer, Marcodi Musical Products, and he conducts tutorials and instrument demonstrations on his YouTube channel.
