On March 21 at 19:00, science journalist and popular science communicator Asya Kazantseva will give a lecture in Bishkek for the first time: "The Science of Delayed Gratification: Will (Not) Eating the Marshmallow Lead to Success?"
If you're interested in popular science, you've probably heard of the famous marshmallow test. According to the test, children who can delay gratification (not eat the marshmallow immediately) supposedly achieve greater success in life. However, modern research shows that this link is not so straightforward—children’s living conditions significantly influence the results. Additionally, there are many other experiments on delayed rewards, including neurobiological studies and tests involving animals.
The key question of the lecture is: should we develop the ability to delay gratification in ourselves and our children? And if so, how can we do it correctly?
After the lecture, there will be a Q&A session where guests can ask questions of interest. There will also be an opportunity to purchase Asya Kazantseva’s books with her autograph.
About the Lecturer: Asya Kazantseva is a renowned science journalist, winner of the "Enlightener" award, and author of several bestsellers on the human brain and behavior. She is also a traveling lecturer. Kazantseva has a background in neurobiology, having studied at the Faculty of Biology at Saint Petersburg State University, earned a master's degree in Cognitive Sciences from the Higher School of Economics, and completed a master's in Molecular Neurobiology at the University of Bristol.
