The Obsessed in Tallinn! Prepare for a massive, heavy doom night this November!
The Obsessed was formed in the late 1970s in Potomac, Maryland by legendary guitarist Scott "Wino" Weinrich (Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan), drawing influence from artists such as Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, The Dictators, and The Stooges. After early lineup changes and the release of the Sodden Jackal EP in 1983, the band broke up in the late 80s when Wino moved to join Saint Vitus. A previously recorded album was later released, prompting a reunion that led to their 1994 album The Church Within, after which the band split again despite strong reviews.
The Obsessed returned in 2011 with a reunion at Roadburn Festival, followed by appearances at Hellfest Open Air and Maryland Deathfest. In 2016, they reformed full-time and signed with Relapse Records, introducing a new lineup that eventually expanded the band into a four-piece again.
In 2017, they released Sacred, their first album in over twenty years. The lineup later stabilized around Wino, Brian Costantino, Chris Angleberger, and Jason Taylor, leading to their 2024 album Gilded Sorrow, released via Ripple Music, described by Wino as one of the heaviest and most complete works of his career.
