NEOCLASSICS
Organ, Gongs & Soprano
Year-End Concert
December 30, 2026 at 7:00 PM
St. John's Church, Tartu
In the final days of the year, when time seems to slow down, we invite you on an extraordinary musical journey where the majestic sound of the organ, the deep vibrations of gongs, and the enchanting voice of a soprano come together.
The concert features works by some of the most remarkable composers of our time — Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt, Max Richter, Hans Zimmer, Ólafur Arnalds, Vangelis, and Ludovico Einaudi, as well as music by Sigur Rós. Their music brings together the clarity of minimalism, the beauty of neoclassical compositions, and profound emotional expression.
The majestic sound of the organ fills the church, while the gongs add new sonic textures and a sense of spaciousness. The soprano voice brings warmth, sensitivity, and a deeply moving human presence to the music.
This is a concert where contemporary music meets the centuries-old traditions and unique acoustics of the church, offering listeners an opportunity to experience familiar compositions in a new and captivating soundscape.
The end of the year is a time to pause, reflect on the journey behind us, and make space for new beginnings. Let this music accompany us across the threshold of the New Year, filling our hearts with gratitude, peace, and fresh inspiration.
PERFORMERS
Tiia Tenno – Organ
A distinguished Estonian organist who has served as organist and choir director at St. John's Church in Tallinn since 1996.
Anna Dotsenko (NUANN), Finland – Soprano
A singer and vocal coach whose enchanting voice combines emotional depth, sensitivity, and a masterful command of the bel canto technique.
Lilia Märtmaa & Deniss Vinogradov – Gongs
Founders of the HelideLab Healing Sounds Centre, multi-instrumentalists, and sound therapists whose artistic work brings together the rich tonal qualities of various instruments and the expressive freedom of musical improvisation.
THE SOUND OF GONGS
The gong is a percussion instrument that produces sound through the vibration of the instrument itself. Its voice can be delicate and barely audible or powerful and expansive. Different playing techniques create a rich palette of tones and slowly evolving soundscapes.
In this concert programme, gong interludes enrich and expand the musical experience, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in the world of sound — to experience its emergence, transformation, and fading, and to discover the silence between the notes.
