Arvo Pärt’s Chamber Music and Gong Soundscapes
We invite you to a special concert featuring the music of Arvo Pärt, performed on piano and violin.
Between the composer’s works, gong soundscapes will unfold, giving listeners time to absorb what they have heard and prepare for the next piece.
Silence, clarity of sound and attentive listening hold a special place in Arvo Pärt’s music. His distinctive musical language, tintinnabuli, takes its name from the Latin word tintinnabulum, meaning “little bell.”
This concert brings together the sounds of piano and violin with the rich tonal colours of gongs. The gongs will be heard between Pärt’s compositions as independent musical interludes, creating a peaceful atmosphere in which listeners can step away from the pace of everyday life and immerse themselves in the music.

PERFORMERS
Leena Laas — Violin
Leena Laas is a violinist and violin teacher who performs both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She has been a member of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians since 1999 and has performed extensively in Estonia and across Europe.
Estonian music and Baroque repertoire hold an important place in her artistic work. In collaboration with pianist Nata-Ly Sakkos, she recorded the CD Poème d’amour.
Auli Teppo — Piano
Auli Teppo is a pianist who gained recognition through the first season of the Estonian television competition Klassikatähed (Classical Stars).
She has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras and is an active chamber musician. The music of Arvo Pärt holds a special place in her repertoire.
In Ikoonid/Pärt, a collaborative production by the Tallinn Philharmonic Society and Tallinn Dance Theatre, she performed Arvo Pärt’s piano music.
Lilia Märtmaa and Deniss Vinogradov — Gongs
Lilia Märtmaa and Deniss Vinogradov are musicians, multi-instrumentalists and founders of HelideLab.
For this concert, they will create musical interludes on gongs, exploring a rich palette of timbres, dynamics and silence.
THE SOUND OF GONGS
The gong is a percussion instrument that produces sound through the vibration of the instrument itself. Its sound can range from delicate and barely audible to expansive and powerful. Different playing techniques make it possible to create a wide variety of tonal colours and slowly evolving soundscapes.
In this programme, the gong interludes invite listeners to experience the emergence, transformation and fading of sound, while becoming more aware of the silence between notes.
