Sofia Rubina & Band: In the land of Oo-Bla-Dee

The golden age of jazz returns to Velvet in a musical journey through the sound and style of the 1950s. Every note and rhythm evokes the charm, romance, and playfulness of a bygone era. Classics such as La Vie En Rose, Hallelujah I Just Love Him So, I Got Rhythm, Bye Bye Blackbird, and High Wire capture the atmosphere of Soho and Broadway’s glittering jazz clubs, where music spoke directly to the heart.

Sofia Rubina, one of Estonia’s most radiant jazz voices, brings a renewed sense of energy and authenticity to the stage. Her music is rooted in jazz tradition, rich with improvisation, colour, and optimism. She weaves together influences from classic jazz standards, vintage tones, soul, pop, and electronic collaborations, creating performances that move both body and spirit.

Inspired from an early age by icons such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Dianne Reeves, Sofia began her vocal studies at ten and later refined her craft at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston under the guidance of pianist Danilo Pérez.

Over the years, she has performed and recorded with leading orchestras and composers including the Estonian Dream Big Band, Kaunas Big Band, Latvian Radio Big Band, Raimond Pauls, and American trumpeter Phillip Lassiter. With six albums and countless performances, her music has travelled from New York’s Blue Note to stages across Asia and back home again.
