GALERIE WASSER Berlin

Sergey Chubraev is a collector, cultural researcher, and custodian of a unique archive of the Leningrad underground of the late 20th century. He is the author of the book “Chronicles of My Underground” (2020).

The lecture explores subcultural movements and the informal art scene of Leningrad in the 1980s–90s, focusing on the interactions and mutual influence between artists, musicians, fashion designers, poets, theatre-makers, and filmmakers.

Studios, squats, clubs, communal kitchens, consulates, and cafés are examined as key spaces of meeting and exchange. Creative collectives and informal unions are discussed as ways of realizing the most ambitious and unconventional ideas.

The lecture will feature rare video footage and photographs from the lecturer’s personal archive. The lecture will be held in Russian.
