On the evening before the grand whisky parade at Riga Circus, we invite you to join us for an incredibly exclusive whisky dinner “Is there sherry in my whisky?” at restaurant B7. In an intimate atmosphere, together with our international guests and some of the brightest names in the whisky world, we will enjoy exceptional food by chef Valters Zirdziņš, great drinks, behind-the-scenes whisky stories, and the very best kind of conversations that happen around the table.
The Riga Whisky & Friends opening dinner at the elegant B7 restaurant by Valters Zirdziņš will be a multi-course experience with paired whiskies and wine samples, hosted by our distinguished guests: Billy Abbott from the United Kingdom and Diego Borrás from Spain.
The central question of the evening: how does maturation in different types of casks influence the flavour of whisky? Most of us are familiar with the sweet and floral character of spirits matured in ex-bourbon casks, but during this evening of flavours and stories, Billy and Diego will invite us to explore the rich and colourful nuances that whisky gains when fully or partially matured in fortified and dessert wine casks.
Billy Abbott is a London-based drinks expert, author, ambassador for The Whisky Exchange, and judge at international spirits competitions. Madrid-based Diego Borrás, meanwhile, is a specialist in sherry and other fortified wines, working mainly with the Scotch whisky industry and advising on the influence of wood in whisky maturation.
Throughout the evening, Billy and Diego will guide us through the finer flavour nuances of seven whiskies matured in different casks. In selected cases, these will also be complemented by a sample of the corresponding wine whose casks were used to mature the whisky.
