Soundpainting is a live composing sign language that allows performers to create scenes and performances in real time using gestures. Originally developed by Walter Thompson, it is now used by actors, musicians, dancers, and improvisers around the world to unlock creativity, strengthen ensemble work, and explore new artistic possibilities.

In this weekend intensive, internationally acclaimed improviser Zeno Cavalla will introduce the foundations of Soundpainting and demonstrate how it can transform the way you perform, direct, teach, and collaborate. Through practical exercises and live compositions, you'll discover new tools to create spontaneous performances and deepen your improvisation practice.

Meet Your Instructor

Zeno Cavalla is an Italian improviser, actor, director, and teacher who has taught workshops and performed across Europe. His approach combines theatrical precision with playful exploration, helping performers become more confident, connected, and creative on stage. Passionate about interdisciplinary performance, Zeno integrates techniques from theatre traditions such as Commedia dell'Arte with modern improvisation and Soundpainting, offering practical tools that performers can immediately apply in rehearsals and performances.
