Piibe Kolka "It’s Not a Place, It’s a Shape. Andy Männik's Archive"

Language English

It's Not a Place, It's a Shape. Andy Männik's Archive is a lecture-performance by Piibe Kolka that takes audiences into a personal archive. The archive belonged to Andy Männik, an Estonian carpenter living in New York who, among other things, initiated the avant-garde arts space The Kitchen. It is the story of a friendship, the story of a city, and the story of an archive.

Piibe is interested in disappearance and presence, in what is recorded and what emerges in the moment, in embodied memories and the rhythms of early video. The form of the performance refers to the early years of The Kitchen and to the experimental "bring your tapes" evenings of early video and performance art, where artists made video recordings and built live events around them.

Piibe Kolka is a filmmaker and artworker whose practice involves playful interpretations of real-life material. These interpretations may take shape as films, installations, performances, writing, conversations, or walks.
