About the Evening:
This evening will be something unusual for Piano Insel – probably the furthest we have ever travelled from classical music. Talia Erdal is one of the most remarkable artists we have ever met. She is a classically trained cellist and principal cellist of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and at the same time a singer, a composer and a performer who constantly pushes the boundaries of what a cello can do. The programme brings together her own music, her arrangements and a little classical repertoire – an evening that is hard to put into a single category, and that is exactly the point.
About the Artist:
Talia Erdal is a cellist, singer and composer from Jerusalem. Classically trained, she has been principal cellist of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra since 2020 and was previously principal cellist of the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble. Her repertoire ranges from early music and contemporary works to folk, jazz, rock, world music and free improvisation. She also composes, arranges and sings, performing her own music in classical and non-classical venues and writing for theatre and dance. Her latest album, "Moonlight", is a one-woman, genre-bending project recorded live at the Jerusalem Music Centre. In it, the cello becomes melody, harmony and percussion all at once – a true one-woman band. Critics and audiences have praised the album for its intimacy, emotional depth and remarkable command of the instrument. Her playing has been broadcast on German television and BBC Radio, and is regularly heard on the Israeli classical radio station "Kol HaMusika".

🍷 The Piano Insel Experience As always, we will have a selection of fine wine, beer, and other refreshments ready for you before, during, and after the performance. You are warmly invited to stay after the concert to converse with the artist and other guests. Much like the historic musical salons, we gather for the music, but meeting other people and getting to know the musicians personally is just as much a part of the Piano Insel experience. Our doors will remain open until midnight!
