Peia – Fathoms Deep | Concert in Tallinn

Kaja kultuurikeskus, Tallinn

It is my great joy to invite you to a concert. On 4 April 2027, Peia comes to Tallinn on her Fathoms Deep release tour, celebrating her first full-length solo album in more than ten years.

Tallinn is the very first concert of this European tour. After Estonia, Peia continues on to Zürich, London, Paris, Oslo, Warsaw and Ljubljana. You have the chance to be among the first to hear these songs.

For twelve years Peia has been gathering and carrying forward traditional songs from many cultures: Irish keening songs, Scottish waulking songs, Bulgarian mountain calls. She lives in the Appalachian Mountains, and her voice moves easily between the ancient and the present. With three studio albums and more than a decade of international touring, she has a devoted audience around the world. She seeks the place where music, ancestry and memory meet, and breathes new life into old songs.

With Fathoms Deep, Peia turns inward.

The album is a movement from singing what touches us all toward something far more personal and intimate. It was written during a time of great change. It travels through loss, grief and the nearness of death, through the way pain turns into beauty, and arrives at last at the power of a love that carries us.

These are songs born in deep water. Songs of surrender and devotion, of what falls away and what remains when we meet life without armour. Here Peia is more vulnerable and open than ever before. She sings from her own lived experience, with an intimacy rarely heard in her earlier work.

The album was co-produced with Trewin Howard (Phoria). The soundscape is spacious and cinematic: live instruments, gentle electronics, space and fine detail. These layers don't hide the intimacy of the songs; they create a landscape around them that is at times elemental and otherworldly, at times surprisingly close.

On stage Peia is joined by three musicians. You will hear harmonium, charango, violin, double bass and percussion, so the songs come alive as a true live band, with no backing tracks.

The concert brings together songs from Fathoms Deep and Peia's earlier work, both her own compositions and the traditional songs that have shaped her musical life. It is a journey through grief and beauty, lineage and belonging, darkness and renewal.

Fathoms Deep is a record about what happens when we allow ourselves to descend fully into the depths of human existence and discover that love is still there.
