The rising global jazz star and Mercury Prize-nominated saxophonist and her quartet will headline the Spring Session of Pink Noise Riga festival on April 11. Garcia's versatile sound blends jazz, classical, dub, R&B, and broken beat.
“Garcia joins the brawny, big-toned tradition of tenor saxophonists like John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, spelling out her melodies in broad, decisive phrases.” —NEW YORK TIMES
Nubya Garcia isn’t an artist you can easily classify. Is it jazz? Sure, the London-born saxophonist, composer and bandleader grew up studying the genre under the noted pianist Nikki Yeoh at Camden Music. But it isn’t until you listen to albums like 2020’s Source and 2024’s Odyssey that you hear broader creativity shining through: it’s jazz, classical, dub, R&B and whatever else Garcia wants to convey.
Nubya Garcia has performed at many of the world’s leading festivals and in sold-out concert halls, including Glastonbury, Newport Jazz, Jazz à Vienne, as well as Radio City Music Hall in New York and elsewhere.
Inaugurated in 2024 by the legendary jazz musician Branford Marsalis, Pink Noise Riga music festival offers a cocktail of world-class jazz, pop-rock, fusion, and contemporary improvised music. Festival’s main idea is to help Riga stand out & shine bright in Europe’s music scene.
In the 2026 season, the festival is replacing its summer format with two sessions: one in the spring (April 10-12) and one in the autumn (November 27-29). Tickets are already available for the concert of British jazz star, saxophonist Nubya Garcia, at Palladium on April 11, as well as for the Baltic debut of the legendary American musician Wynton Marsalis and the world-famous Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which will take place at the Dailes Theatre on November 29, 2026.
