«Mind the closing doors»: Premiere in Berlin

Tuesday 5. May at 19:30 - 22:00

Kino Central, Berlin

The Moscow Metro has revived a Soviet-era tradition by forming a choir made up of its employees—ticket clerks, train drivers, and station staff. Under the direction of conductor Boris Tarakanov, they prepare to take part in the opera "The Flood," which tells the story of the last day before the end of the world. After a successful premiere, the choir sets off on its first tour to Crimea, where it becomes caught up in the beginning of a real apocalypse.

Film critic Anton Dolin on the film: "Mind the closing doors received two awards from the prestigious — and the only independent — Russian film prize 'White Elephant' (best documentary and film of the year as chosen by young critics), and this comes as no surprise. Isaenko reminded us that since the 20th century, the protagonist of the most terrible tragedies has always been the chorus. No films will change that, but the very act of documenting the evolution of a touching ritual into a militant, threatening spectacle is invaluable. And in a single drop of water, the scale of the flood that has engulfed everyone is reflected with remarkable precision."
