Kill All Humans: The Cold War, Cyberpunk, and Hate on Social Media
On 25 November, join us for a lecture by Medieval Suffering, marking the release of the new mini-series Blade Runner 2099 on Amazon Prime Video!
A dark, futuristic Los Angeles, powerful corporations, artificial intelligence, and replicants almost indistinguishable from humans. The Blade Runner Universe, first brought to the screen by Ridley Scott in 1982 and revisited by Denis Villeneuve in 2017, has become one of the most iconic representations of cyberpunk.
During the lecture, we'll explore this world and its origins, including Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and discuss how the ideas of science fiction increasingly reflect our own reality.
The rise of artificial intelligence, the expansion of cyberspace, hatred on social media, and a growing sense of global catastrophe — what happens to humanity in a world where it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain human and to recognise the humanity in others?
