Symbols, Strokes & Seals – Chinese Calligraphy Workshop by Master Xianchi Jin. 10+

Thursday 25. June at 19:00 - 21:00

Liberty Books Lisbon, Lisboa

Discover Haizhuan, a unique artistic writing system created by Chinese visual artist Xianchi Jin in Lisbon. Inspired by the meeting of Chinese calligraphic traditions and Portugal’s maritime heritage, Haizhuan transforms letters, words, and names into expressive visual forms, blurring the boundaries between language, art, and cultural storytelling.

During this workshop, participants will explore the origins and creative principles behind Haizhuan, learning how writing can become a powerful artistic medium. Through stories, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, the workshop offers a rare opportunity to engage with a contemporary visual language developed through a dialogue between Eastern and Western cultural traditions.

Guided by the artist, participants will experiment with the fundamental elements of Haizhuan and create their own compositions. No previous experience in calligraphy or drawing is required – only curiosity and a willingness to explore new forms of creative expression. All materials will be provided by the artist.

A special highlight of the workshop is the creation of a personalized Haizhuan name artwork. Each participant will leave with a unique piece inspired by their own name, serving as a meaningful keepsake of this cross-cultural artistic experience.
