The Rodios family pottery workshop has been active on the island of Skopelos since the early 1900s and is internationally renowned for its unique ceramic forms and signature deep-black finish. This remarkable color is achieved through a patented firing technique developed by the family, a craft that has earned the workshop 10 international gold awards and recognition by UNESCO as part of the world’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Visitors are invited to enjoy an immersive pottery experience that combines tradition, craftsmanship, and hands-on creativity. The session begins with a short introduction to the history of the workshop and the centuries-old pottery tradition of Skopelos, followed by a live demonstration on the potter’s wheel.
Participants then have the opportunity to create their own ceramic piece, either on the wheel with expert guidance or using hand-building techniques. Alternatively, guests may choose to decorate a pre-made ceramic vessel using paints, carving tools, or specially designed stamps.
All pieces are fired in the workshop’s ceramic kiln and can be taken home as a unique, handmade keepsake—a lasting memory of an authentic Skopelos experience.
