An evening with actor, theatre-maker and artist Tomas Arana at Arc Space London
Tomas Arana’s career has moved between experimental theatre, contemporary art, European cinema and Hollywood.
He played Quintus in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, worked with Martin Scorsese on The Last Temptation of Christ, Christopher Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises, and appeared in L.A. Confidential, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bodyguard, The Hunt for Red October, Pearl Harbor, Limitless, Guardians of the Galaxy and many other films.
But there is much more to his story.
Before becoming known internationally as a film actor, Arana was a producer and one of the leading actors of Falso Movimento, the influential experimental theatre company founded with director Mario Martone in Naples. The company toured internationally for more than nine years, presenting its work at major theatre and arts festivals around the world.
Arana also spent several years working at the legendary Lucio Amelio Gallery in Naples, at the heart of the Italian contemporary art scene. There he worked alongside and became friends with artists including Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Jannis Kounellis, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Mimmo Paladino, Michelangelo Pistoletto and others. Warhol painted Arana’s portrait, which remains part of his collection.
At Between Worlds, we will talk about his work with some of the world’s most renowned directors, his years in experimental theatre, his relationship with the contemporary art world and Andy Warhol, and the very different ways artists and directors work.
We will also talk about what happens to an artist over a lifetime — how our relationship with our profession, our work and ourselves changes as we move through different worlds and different stages of life.
An evening about theatre, cinema, art and a life lived between worlds.
