Estonian Percussion Group
Description
Founded in 2020, the ensemble brings together four outstanding Estonian percussionists: Karl Johann Lattikas, Lauri Metsvahi, Tiit Joamets, and Tanel-Eiko Novikov. The quartet’s repertoire spans the rich world of percussion music, ranging from Baroque works to rock-inspired pieces.
Percussion music offers a nearly limitless palette of sounds. With instrumental setups that vary drastically between pieces, every performance is uniquely captivating to watch and hear. This vast sonic world encompasses everything from virtuosic, rhythm-driven drumming to the delicate, meditative soundscapes of the marimba and vibraphone.
The centrepiece of the concert’s minimalist programme is Philip Glass’s Aguas da Amazonia, which, alongside more traditional instruments, features glass bottles and bowls filled with water on stage. The programme also includes several works by Estonian composers, among them Fratres by Arvo Pärt, the only one of his works arranged for percussion instruments. The arrangement was made by Vambola Krigul.
