Bishop Damaskinos
Tutvustus
“For many, Christmas is a celebration of traditions, a time of rest, peace, and togetherness. But it also has a much deeper meaning: it is the feast of God becoming man and, through this, the renewal of all humanity. It reminds us of our calling to draw ever closer to God through ascetic practice. This calls for perseverance and humility, and above all, an unwavering trust in God, as we hold fast to Him as our eternal and unshakable rock,” Bishop Damaskinos said in the introduction to his lecture.
Bishop Damaskinos of the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Haapsalu is the abbot of the Monastery of the Holy Fathers of Mount Athos in Kirikla. Having been tonsured a monk at Xenophontos Monastery on Mount Athos, he is able to continue in Estonia the thousand-year-old spiritual tradition of Mount Athos. Bishop Damaskinos holds a doctorate in theology. In addition to his episcopal duties, he currently works at the University of Eastern Finland, where he is a lecturer in systematic and patristic theology. He is also a visiting lecturer in patristics, bioethics and ascetic theology at the Theological Institute of the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church and an associate professor of patristics at the University of Helsinki.
