The closing dinner of the Riga Wine & Champagne autumn season and the founding of a brotherhood of Bordeaux lovers
What treasures from Bordeaux have we not had the pleasure of enjoying right here in Riga? Remember the Mouton Rothschild vertical? The 1996 Pauillac battles at the old beloved Vincent? Michael Schuster’s cellar gems, culminating in the triumphant 1990 Lafite-Rothschild? The Bordeaux flood during Roald Dahl’s Taste reading at Hanzas Perons?
In other words – the fact that we love Bordeaux in Riga is hardly a secret!
Les Amis de Bordeaux à Riga
To make our relationship with this legendary French region just a little more official – and, most importantly, to give us an excellent excuse to meet more often in the company of great Bordeaux – what would you say if we came together to establish the Baltics’ first brotherhood of Bordeaux lovers: Les Amis de Bordeaux à Riga?
Don’t get us wrong. This will not be some formal brotherhood weighed down by solemn procedures and dusty traditions. No obligations, membership fees, nostalgic initiation rituals or unnecessary pomp.
Simply a group of like-minded friends who, under the banner of Les Amis de Bordeaux, can occasionally gather – and with appropriate ceremony – to enjoy exceptional Bordeaux wines!
If you join us for the founding dinner on 22 November, you will receive a fully official certificate confirming your place in Les Amis de Bordeaux à Riga. And, in turn, this means that from then on, you will be the first to receive invitations to all our future great Bordeaux gatherings!
The evening will be opened by one of the world’s most inspiring wine writers, our friend Andrew Jefford. With his uniquely captivating storytelling, Andrew will take us on a journey to Bordeaux, exploring the phenomenon of vintages.
Why is a vintage in Bordeaux so much more than simply a number on a label? And what exactly makes the wines of the 2000 vintage so coveted and historically significant?
A millennium feast
The stars of the Les Amis de Bordeaux “Millennium Feast” will be the great Bordeaux reds from the 2000 vintage, now twenty-six years of age and approaching their golden peak – a moment when the power of youth begins to transform into silky, autumnal complexity.
The chef behind this Millennium Feast will be none other than Valters Zirdziņš, together with the brilliant B7 team.
