Sami Leponiemi is one of the most highly regarded saxophonists of his generation. Leponiemi's relentless passion for music and saxophone playing has captured the attention of audiences as well as many pioneers of jazz music. He has studied at the jazz department of the Sibelius Academy and the Conservatoire de Paris and has had the honour of performing with jazz legend Chuck Israels, as well as numerous renowned Finnish musicians such as Sami Saari and Jukkis Uotila. Leponiemi has received recognition by securing 2nd place in the Markku Johansson Composition Competition in 2023 and 1st place in the Huittinen Hullu Puhallus Wind Instrument Competition in 2017.
In composition, Leponiemi values cohesive structure and creativity. With his new quartet, he strives to blend the best elements of improvised and fully composed music. His inventive rhythms, tempo changes, and the ensemble's musical communication keep the audience engaged.
