The music of saxophonist and flautist Ilmari Rönkä and vibraphonist Mikko Antila is chamber jazz that leaves plenty of room for colours and nuances. The duo's repertoire consists of compositions by Rönkä and Antila that explore the full potential of the duo format. The warm blend of flute, saxophone and vibraphone, the duo's musical interplay and rhythmic energy keep audiences captivated.
These young multi-instrumentalists have already made a significant impact on the Finnish jazz scene. Rönkä performs with ensembles including Tasavallan Presidentti Complete and Joonas Tuuri Quartet, and has played extensively with the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra in recent years. Antila is known for his own band Sinetti, as well as his work with Stance Brothers, Mikko Innanen's new quintet and Kaisa’s Machine.
In September, Flame Jazz Records will release the duo's album Magic Meadow, recorded at Roihuvuori Church in Helsinki. The album consists mainly of compositions by Rönkä. Join us for the album release concert!
