+ few more
Kai Art Center, Tallinn
Genre: adventure, family film
Running time: 1h 9m
As the opening screening of Kai Cinema’s two-day special programme “Estonian Film Classics: Simm & Kruusement”, we bring to the big screen one of the most exciting and endearing adventure films in Estonian film history: Peeter Simm’s Arabella, the Pirate’s Daughter (Arabella, mereröövli tütar, 1982).
Based on Aino Pervik’s story of the same name, this classic family adventure is about first love, justice, the triumph of good and the harsh life of pirates. It follows Arabella, the 9-year-old daughter of the fearsome pirate captain Taaniel Tina, who has grown up aboard the pirate ship Skorpion. When a mysterious wanderer named Hassan comes aboard, the girl begins to think about good and evil for the first time. A dangerous chain of events is set in motion that puts both the pirates’ laws and Arabella’s courage to the test.
