What?
Bushcraft is a set of skills and knowledge that can be used to survive - and thrive - in the great outdoors. Set in the beautiful grounds of Norman Court Estate, activities will include fire craft, campfire cooking, shelter building, animal tracking, plant ID, foraging, tool work, navigation, wilderness first aid and orientation.
Why?
Bushcraft develops independence, promotes teamwork, boosts problem solving skills, improves physical fitness and increases environmental awareness.
Perhaps most importantly, practicing bush craft and outdoor skills is good for mental health and well being. Studies have shown that spending time in nature can reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood and self-esteem, and improve overall mental health.
Sessions are led by Dawn, Tracy & Sophie.
Dawn and Tracy are experienced outdoor enthusiasts with a passion for bushcraft and survival skills. Having spent years honing their knowledge of the wild, they are excited to share practical skills like shelter building, fire-making, and foraging in hands on sessions. Their 7 year old daughter attends Free Spirits during the week.
Sophie has 20 years experience of teaching and a love of nature and the great outdoors. She has an enhanced DBS certificate and is trained in Paediatric First Aid, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for children during outdoor activities.
