Gut Feeling: The Science of Intuition and Decision-Making
Friday 18. September at 19:00 - 21:00
TUECHTIG, Berlin
"You're just following a hunch again—use your head!"
It’s a phrase we’ve all heard. We are taught that critical thinking is our only lifeline, while intuition is nothing more than a bundle of cognitive biases and an annoying "bug" in our psyche. But is that really the case?
At this lecture, we’re going to flip the script. As it turns out, the ability to make lightning-fast decisions with minimal data isn't an evolutionary mistake—it’s our ultimate key feature. Without it, humanity simply wouldn't have survived.
Modern science no longer dismisses intuition; it dissects it.
At the lecture, we will discuss:
🔹 The Rationality of the Irrational: In which situations does a "gut feeling" work more accurately than cold calculation?
🔹 Mapping Intuition in the Brain: Which regions and neural circuits are responsible for that specific "feeling of being right"?
🔹 Intuition vs. Logic: When should you trust your inner voice, and when is it flat-out lying to you?
🔹 Precision Tools vs. Errors: Which factors and states turn intuition into a high-precision instrument, and which ones turn it into a source of foolish mistakes?
Join us to discover how your brain predicts the future before you even realize it. Sometimes, the most rational thing you can do is stop thinking and just... feel.
