The Northern Route: Human Stories of War That Must Be Told
Book Presentation

Berlin, Panda Platforma
November 6, 19:00
With the support of Civil Society Cooperation and the Auswärtiges Amt

“This book was written thanks to thousands of volunteers who will keep working every day until the war stops.”

On November 6, Panda Platforma will host a public presentation of the book The Northern Route.
It brings together diary entries from four volunteers who evacuate civilians from Ukraine under bombardment.
They meet refugees at checkpoints, bring them to safe apartments, provide clothing and food, and accompany them to borders, from where they travel onward to Europe. They also record the stories of those they help — people who have survived the tragedy of war and the loss of home.
Each page is an encounter: at a checkpoint, in a crowded car, or in the quiet of a stranger’s apartment — a rare place to breathe again.

Participants

Zhenya Berezhnaya — Ukrainian writer and podcaster, PEN Germany fellow, and popularizer of fairy-tale motifs in contemporary literature. She explores the magical and mythological dimensions of prose as a way to speak about urgent modern issues.
Her autobiographical novel Not (About) the War was published in 2024 by Meduza Books — a story about the loss of home, betrayal, and the possibility of real miracles.

Maria Agni — actress and theater-maker. Works at the intersection of art, education, and activism, collaborating with NGOs and civic initiatives. In her often documentary projects, she explores political and social themes such as collective memory, totalitarianism, antisemitism, and social justice.
