Lecture. Irene Kukota: The Rhythm of Silence

Arc Space London

We are pleased to announce that we will host a lecture by Irina Kukota, a graduate of the University of Oxford and the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, dedicated to Oleg Prokofiev (1928–1998) – a non-conformist artist and the son of the composer Sergei Prokofiev.

Oleg Prokofiev began his artistic career in the Soviet Union in the 1950s, working outside the official framework of Socialist Realism. In 1971, he moved to the UK, where he continued to develop his own language of abstraction, combining painting, drawing, sculpture and poetry.

The lecture “The Rhythm of Silence” offers a look at Prokofiev’s work through several key concepts – rhythm, pause and space. The discussion will focus on specific aspects of his practice and, above all, on his American-Parisian period.

This period provides an opportunity to discuss how Oleg Prokofiev developed his own artistic language at the intersection of various cultural and aesthetic traditions.

Oleg Prokofiev’s legacy includes works of art and archival materials held at the Prokofiev Studio in London.
