Vivita / Lahenduste Laboratoorium invites all children and young people aged 9-18 to participate in the New Year Japanese Calligraphy "Kaki-zome (書初め)" workshop

"Kaki-zome (書初め)" is a Japanese tradition of writing New Year's aspirations, resolutions or prayers for the new year with brush and ink.

It refers to the first letters or words written in the new year, which is imbued with special meanings and wishes, and is sometimes seen as art. For example, by writing words such as "peace (平和)" or "happiness (幸せ)" first in the new year, people pray that their wishes will come true that year.

In this workshop, you can experience the followings:

  • Think about this 2025 year and find out good words for yourself
  • Translate your words into Japanese
  • Practice some techniques to use brush and ink
  • Practice writing your own words
  • Once you are satisfied with your work, you can take it home and display it
  • You can also add some decorations it with paper, fabric, etc
