Join us for a walk through Pärnu in the footsteps of Raimond Valgre (1913–1949), one of Estonia’s most beloved composers and musicians.
Valgre wrote around 100 songs during his short life, but much of his music became widely known only after his death. His songs, including “Saaremaa valss” (“Saaremaa Waltz”), “Muinaslugu muusikas” (“A Little Story in the Music”) and “Pärnu ballaad” (“Ballad of Pärnu”), are still loved and performed today.
He spent several summers in Pärnu, playing in summer orchestras. Some of his best-known songs were written here or inspired by his summer romances.
On our walk, I’ll share stories about Valgre’s life in Pärnu, and local accordionist Madis Pilt will play some of his songs for us.
We’ll walk from the city centre to the beach district, stopping at places where he performed, places connected to his summer romances and one of his former lodgings. We’ll end the tour at his statue beside the Pärnu Kuursaal, where he played in several summer orchestras.
If you enjoy music and local history, we’d love to have you join us.
Guide: Triin Kolts
