Even hotter: How two record years are changing the future of the planet – and what does this mean for Kazakhstan?

Sunday 23. March at 19:00 - 22:00

SmArt.Point, Almaty

On March 23 at 19:00 in Almaty, glaciologist and climatologist with more than 25 years of research experience Alexey Ekaikin will give a lecture on climate change and its impact on us 👀

2023 and 2024 went down in history as the warmest years on record, reaching a dangerous mark of +1.5 °C relative to the pre-industrial era. Some experts fear that global climate change has accelerated, while others see this as only a short-term surge. Both, however, have no doubt that warming will not stop in the coming years.

At the lecture, you will learn:

  • What is really happening with the global climate?
  • How do natural anomalies manifest themselves in Central Asia and Kazakhstan in particular? What changes await the climate of Almaty, will there be more hot and dry days there?
  • Is modern climate change a unique phenomenon or has this happened before? - What changes in the coming decades will affect water resources, agriculture and urban life?

Get ready for an honest conversation about the future without unnecessary panic, but with an understanding of the scale of the problems: the planet is changing faster than we thought, and far from the simplest scenarios may await us.

After the lecture:
Q&A session — ask your boldest and most unexpected questions about our future!
Photo with the lecturer — capture the moment with an expert on ice cores and climate change! 📸
