" / " (pronounced: solidus) is a collaboration between choreographer Ayano Yokoyama and music producer 34423, highlighting the different relationships between sound and body movement. It is an attempt to recognize individual existence without categorization. Sound is vibration and waves, and waves are also boundaries. We started from the shared concept of expressing the ambiguity, fluctuation, strength, and weakness of the boundaries between all things. In this endeavor, the dancer's movement actively collides with sound as a form of noise cancellation, rather than being synchronized with it. Active noise canceling involves overlaying antiphase sounds to neutralize the sound. However, in reality, the sound doesn't disappear; it persists but in an inaudible state. The 'movement' aiming for a similar effect may become a wall and a boundary without being eroded by sound. In this project, the dancer breaks the boundaries between the visible and the invisible through choreography, engaging the audience's personal imagination and senses. This approach highlights the present moment and individuality.
Ayano Yokoyama is a Tokyo-based choreographer, dancer, and director of the dance company lal banshees. Her work explores a distinctive movement language rooted in sensation, creating choreographies that move beyond fixed identities and are closely intertwined with sound. Yokoyama is interested in moments that emerge spontaneously, allowing dance to unfold without predetermined intention. By blurring the boundaries between the visible and the invisible, she invites audiences into an experiential space shaped by perception, imagination, and presence. Her recent work Suiyoubaion, featuring scenography made from discarded PET bottles, was selected for Aerowaves Spring Forward 2022. She is the recipient of several awards, including the Yokohama Dance Collection 2020 Jury Prize, and is a Saison Fellow I of The Saison Foundation.
34423|Fumi Miyoshi is a Tokyo-based music producer, composer, and artist. She creates and arranges music for films, advertisements, and sound logos, and is the founder of the music label HEXODD and the product brand HED. Having engaged with recording equipment and musical instruments from an early age, Miyoshi has developed a distinctive sonic language shaped by hard beats, curiosity, and an experimental approach. Her work moves fluidly across genres, constructing layered sound collages that reflect a free and exploratory creative process. Her third album Logos UI (2021), featuring Mizuki Ohira and ermhoi, was released via Forgot Imprint (US). In 2023, she marked the 10th anniversary of her artistic career, with new releases in
development across both her label and brand.
Aïsha Devi is a Swiss-born, Nepalese-Tibetan electronic music artist and producer. No one on this planet sounds like Aïsha Devi. Her voice is her most powerful tool in a repertoire that includes thumping beats and rave stabs, seraphic and guttural singing, mystical linguistics and corporeal sonics. Born in Switzerland with Nepali Indigenous heritage, a transversal identity was forged, guiding both her personal and creative process. Dislocating pop culture, also evident in her mixes for Resident Advisor, FACT, NTS, BBC Radio and Mixmag, is one of her foundational tools. While she currently uses music as her primary medium of expression, Devi’s practice is fundamentally interdisciplinary – she studied graphic design and collaborates with visual and performance artists as well as making her own interventions within the art world. With her mesmeric digital world-building and captivating stage presence she has bowled over crowds at CTM, Primavera, Unsound, Roskilde, Dark Mofo, MoMA PS1 and hundreds of festivals and venues from Japan to Mexico and beyond.
inklingroom is a UK-based, non-profit collective of artists and producers working at the intersection of contemporary dance, performance art and music. Founded in London in 2020 by Keity Pook & Michal Sobkiewicz, inklingroom was created to bridge underground electronic music with contemporary dance, taking performances beyond traditional venues. Since then, they have been curating immersive live events, releasing music and producing works that support emerging, independent and underrepresented choreographers, dancers, musicians, and contemporary artists. Through their efforts, they hope to foster a community that values experimentation, collaboration, and innovation in the arts.
