Composer and pianist Kirill Richter returns to London with CHRONOS, a programme devoted to something that shapes every life and yet can never be held still: time.
For Richter, time is more than hours, days and years. It lives in memory, in the people whoremain with us long after they have gone, in places we can return to only in our minds, and in moments that disappear even as we are living them. Time can feel intimate and almost weightless, then suddenly become immense, carrying whole generations and histories with it.
CHRONOS moves through these different states of time. Memory gives way to motion, stillness to change, the private world of a single person to the larger movement of humanity through space and time. The music does not try to stop that movement. Instead, it listens to it, follows it, and asks what we carry with us as we move forward.
