ADVANCED WORKSHOP IN REGENERATIVE EMBROIDERY: Creating Precious Ornaments from Natural and Reused Materials
Saturday 26. September at 14:30 - 17:30
MAISON SHIFT, Zürich
Deepen your embroidery skills and create textured textile ornaments using natural and repurposed materials.
In this advanced workshop, participants are invited to further explore embroidery as a regenerative practice: a way of transforming materials and traditional techniques through the use of unexpected elements.
Building on the foundations of the introductory workshop, we focus on developing textures and surfaces by incorporating new hand embroidery stitches as well as techniques from goldwork. Threads, metal elements, and found materials such as seeds, plant fragments, broken jewellery, or watch parts are combined into complex, richly textured surfaces.
Participants can either continue developing a project they have already started or begin a new one, such as a sculptural textile ornament for the shoulder composed of multiple embroidered, origami-inspired forms.
Those who wish can also further deepen their skills with the Lunéville hook.
The workshop continues to approach embroidery as a language of transformation: a way to repair, embellish, and rethink what already exists. Each participant develops a more refined and personal piece that can be worn or further evolved.
Emmanuelle Rapin is a French embroidery artist and visual artist based in Berlin. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, she specialised in haute couture embroidery using the Lunéville hook. She has worked with Lou de Bétoly, RIANNA + NINA, Tata Christiane, and on the television series Babylon Berlin with costume designer Pierre Yves Gayraud. Since 2019, she has been teaching contemporary embroidery in fashion and art contexts.
