Kontrabassaleikarinn Birgir Steinn Theodorsson og trommuleikarinn Sólrún Mjöll Kjartansdóttir hafa spilað saman í ýmsum verkefnum en eftir Pólandsferð þeirra í maí 2025 kviknaði sú hugmynd að semja og taka upp hljómplötu með frumsamdri tónlist þeirra beggja þar sem leikið er með samspil kontrabassans og trommusetts og slagverkshljóðfæra. Hljóðheimurinn er opinn og tilraunakenndur, rytminn er teygður í allar áttir og skapar togstreitu sem leysist upp í spuna, fallegum laglínum og hljóðum.
Hljómplata þeirra, Agata, verður flutt í heild sinni á tónleikunum.

Tónleikaröðin Jazz í Djúpinu fer fram á fimmtudagskvöldum kl. 20:30 sumarið 2026. Djúpið er kjallarinn á veitingastaðnum Hornið (Hafnarstræti 15, 101 Reykjavík). Inngangur í Djúpið er að aftan, til móts við Bæjarins beztu. Inngangurinn í kjallarann opnar kl. 20:00. Miðaverð er 4.000 ISK, miðar eru seldir við innganginn og í forsölu. Tónleikaröðin eru skipulögð af Jazzdeild FÍH og er styrkt af Menningarsjóði FÍH, Tónlistarsjóði og Reykjavíkurborg. Athugið að ekki er hjólastólaaðgengi á staðnum.

Agata is a debut album written by bassist Birgir Steinn and drummer Sólrún Mjöll. The album idea came up when they went to Poland and decided to finally compose, record and perform their own music as a duo. They recorded the album in Sundlaugin music studio earlier this year with Albert Finnbogason who helped expand the sonic palette and inspired the direction of the album. Composed with the interplay of double bass, electronic bass, drums, percussion and electronics in mind, Agata blends composed arrangements, melodies, open forms, and free improvisation.
The duo will perform the album in its entirety, additionally they'll perform new pieces. The album is expected to be released later this year.

The Jazz í Djúpinu concert series takes place on Thursday nights at 8:30 PM during the summer of 2026. Djúpið is the basement of the restaurant Hornið (Hafnarstræti 15, 101 Reykjavík). The entrance to Djúpið is at the back, facing Bæjarins beztu. The entrance to the basement opens at 8:00 PM. Ticket price is 4.000 ISK, tickets are sold at the entrance and in advance. The concert series is organised by the Jazz Department of FÍH. Please note that there is no wheelchair access at the venue.
