Rediscover pattern weaving: explore the world of 4-shaft bindings with a portable weaving frame.
In this workshop you'll get to know the Boom Loom – a portable weaving frame that offers a simple, intuitive way into pattern weaving. You'll weave first samples with different bindings and explore how various pattern rods change the structure of the fabric.
Unlike conventional weaving frames, which are mostly used for plain weave, the Boom Loom enables 4-shaft pattern bindings. With five interchangeable pattern rods, inserting and turning each one reveals a different binding – similar to a 4-shaft loom, but with a simple mechanism.
The course is aimed at both beginners and experienced weavers alike: beginners get a playful introduction to 4-shaft bindings, while advanced weavers can develop pattern ideas, create samples, and experiment with structures. By the end, you'll take home at least one hand-woven piece of fabric, approx. 16 × 20 cm.
Stini Arn is a trained equipment designer and the daughter of a professional weaver. After years as a sound artist, she returned to weaving in 2010 through the "Sounding Loom." She lived in Mali for ten years, where in 2016 she founded the handweaving studio Yiriba Textile – awarded Mali's Best Fabric Prize in 2025. Today she lives in Pignia/Graubünden, teaches weaving courses at Webstall, and discovered the Boom Loom while searching for portable weaving systems.
