Experience the European premiere of 'Afterglow, low lingering slips of light' by acclaimed Finnish choreographer Anna Maria Häkkinen, whose mesmerizing dance performance captivated audiences in New York. Originally created for the Performa Biennial in November 2023, the production comes to Tallinn this February.

In his review for Financial Times, Justin Duyao praised Afterglow for its “dizzyingly beautiful” atmosphere and masterful soundscape by Eliel Tammiharju that blends delicate harp tones with electronic music. Afterglow refers to the glow after sunset, the echo after an intense moment in both nature and human interactions.

Helsinki-based choreographer and artist Anna Maria Häkkinen is known for incorporating elements of physical movement, body contact sports, and sculptural composition into her work. Häkkinen embraces minimalist dance principles, exploring the sublime through ideas of surrender, release, tempo, autonomy, and cooperation to transfigure choreography into luminous states of trance. Erupting the floor with interwoven patterns, the performance aims to strike a balance between unpredictability and synchronicity with the dance ensemble until the very end.

What makes this performance truly exceptional is the participation of the original cast, initially brought together specially for the Performa Biennial. The collaboration unites talented emerging dance artists from New York and Helsinki, creating a unique synergy that breathes life into this extraordinary artistic project.
