Listening In: Für Alina

Saturday 21. March at 16:00 - 17:30

Arvo Pärt Centre, Laulasmaa

Performer
Kristina Kõrver (Arvo Pärt Centre)

Description
This edition of ‘Listening In’ focuses on the piano piece Für Alina – Arvo Pärt’s first composition to use the tintinnabuli technique, and one of the key works in his oeuvre. Composed in 1976, this miniature has been discussed from various angles in texts related to Pärt, performed and recorded countless times, and used in films, dance performances and other works of art. Yet it continues to fascinate researchers, interpreters, and listeners alike, inspiring new questions and discussions to this day. This is probably because the fifteen bars of Für Alina embody the core elements of the composer’s creative world: silence, gentleness, self-effacement, obedience and the relationship with the Other.

In this edition of ‘Listening In’, Kristina Kõrver, a researcher at the Arvo Pärt Centre, explores the inspirations behind Für Alina and presents new findings based on recent archival work.

The event is in Estonian.
