A CLOCKWORK ORANGE film screening

FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi

In a dystopian future, a violent young man is “rehabilitated” by the state. Kubrick turns Anthony Burgess’s novel of the same name into a hypnotic study of control, freedom, and moral decay. In the UK, the film ran in cinemas but was withdrawn at the request of the director shortly after amid concerns about copycat violence and threats to his family.

Malcolm McDowell gives the story its strange power, playing a monster who never stops being magnetic. Every scene feels choreographed rather than shot, making it a master study for any filmgoers who obsess over cinematography, set design, lighting and blocking. Even by today's standards A CLOCKWORK ORANGE remains one of the most controlled and daring films ever made.
